When the Franklin County Animal Shelter announced a temporary closure due to a COVID-related staffing shortage, we knew we had to act. They were filled to the brim with dogs and needed a solution fast. To alleviate shelter capacity pressure, we organized a grassroots transport to deliver 9 dogs to a new rescue partner in the north--the Marshall County Animal Shelter in Moundsville, WV. Luckily, we had 2 volunteers willing to make the 15-hour round-trip journey on short-notice.

This operation was a true testament to the power of teamwork! The plan came together in less than 2 days and was anchored by the help from our friends at Ruin Creek Animal Protection Society. They lent us our their transport van, and together with Vance County Animal Shelter Director, Frankie Nobles, they even prepped it for us. The Franklin County shelter staff, our amazing veterinarians and staff at both North Wake Animal Hospital and Complete Pet Care Animal Hospital in Wake Forest, the owners and staff at Audrey's Barkyard and our amazing volunteers/fosters rounded out the all-star cast that made the magic happen.
