A lost pet can be a frightening experience for any pet parent. Immediate action is crucial. Here are some steps to take right away ...
1. Walk the neighborhood! Take a walk around the immediate area and speak to neighbors, postal service workers, landscapers, or anyone who may have seen your lost pet. Look in areas your pet is familiar with, like their favorite hiding spot, walk route or dog park. Most pets are found close to home.
2. Share their scents! Put a couple of your pets favorite items (beds, blankets, toys, litterbox, etc.) near the most common entry ways onto your home or yard to help them find their way back.
Next steps:
1. Check your local animal shelters. A lost pet maybe scared and/or the lighting and angle of pictures may be misleading, so go in person, don't just call.

Did you find a lost or
stray pet?
If you find a lost or stray pet, the first and easiest step is to check for an name/ID tag. Of course, most times, it is never that easy. If there is no owner/ID available:
1. Walk the neighborhood! Take a walk around the immediate area and speak to neighbors, postal service workers, landscapers, or anyone who may know who owns the found pet. Most pets are found close to home.
2. Take to pet to a veterinary office to have it scanned for a chip. Once you have the chip information, you can try to reach the owners through the chip registration.
3. It would be ideal if you could hold on the pet until the owners are located, but that isn't always possible for a variety of reasons. In this case, you should take the found pet to the animal shelter for the county the animal was found in as this is most likely one of the first places an owner will look.
If you can hold onto the pet while you look for the owner, be sure to notify the shelter you have the pet and share where and when it was found, send a picture of the pet and provide your contact information. Additionally,
