Thanks to our Volunteers

Open letter to volunteers!

I meant to get this out earlier, but it seems like I blinked and it was February already! Before things get busier, as the Paws for Life/FCHS Volunteer Coordinator, I wanted to take a quick minute to thank all of our volunteers for your support to this organization.

It doesn’t matter if you are cat team or dog team; foster or general volunteer; or put your efforts towards fundraising, running events/programs, screening applications, checking voice mails, website management, grant writing, delivery/transports, cleaning condos/q-shed, or helping to spread the word about what we do. We are all in this organization together to make a difference in the lives of homeless dogs and cats. Together, we DO make a difference and every year gets better and better with the number of animals we are able to rescue.

I have been a volunteer with this organization for about a year and a half now and assumed my current role in May of last year. Since that time I have seen the organization grow and change as we are continuously infused with new volunteers, fresh ideas, renewed energy and valuable skill sets. My role has given me insight into how busy we are as an organization and how everyone’s contributions intertwine to bring the successes we have. As I look to this new year and the things already planned or underway, I think the challenge is going to be in continuing to harness all of the energy and wonderful ideas of an ever-growing organization in a way that keeps us collectively working in unison towards our common goals … without burning out. Teamwork, unity, effective communication, and organization at every level will be invaluable in this pursuit for sure.

My Volunteer Coordinator “goals” for this year include implementing volunteer training; dabbling in a few smaller community outreach activities; and kicking off quarterly volunteer socials. Also, with a focus on organization, I’m hoping to up my game on keeping the volunteer calendar updated with info on all meetings, adoption events, supply drives, community outreach events, fundraisers, etc., to make it easier for everyone in the group to plan and organize their specialized team events. It will also help everyone to “see” how busy we are as a whole organization.

Thank you all for all that you do!

~ Carla
