Paws For Life Dog Team Adoption Events

The Paws For Life dog team will be at Petco Wake Forest and from 1 to 4PM.

Dogs Wake Forest Petco April 1st
  • Arizona: 7 month old Lab; good with kids, cats & dogs; loves snuggling and squeaky toys; house trained; working on crate training;
  • Faith: 3 year old Bulldog mix; 48 lbs; very shy, sweet girl who spent the last month learning how to be a pet and part of a loving family – every experience was a new one; now house trained & crate trained; good with kids & cats; will require a home with at least one other dog as they give her confidence and help her shine – she CANNOT be an only dog; she is good on leash but doesn't like to potty on leash – would prefer a yard to play in and to find her perfect (private) potty place; she is awaiting surgery for a loose kneecap; will be available in May to give her time to recover from surgery.
  • Duke: 3 year old Husky/Boxer mix; 68 lbs; a huge ball of love; good with kids & cats; LOVES other dogs — so much so that he will need a home with at least one other dog; walks well on leash; house trained & crate trained
  • Gypsy: 3 yr old Lab mix; sweet, stoic nature; she has two speeds: all out or couch potato; she would LOVE a large fenced yard to run & play in; loves children & can live with other dogs & cats; she finds crates insulting; you can confidently leave her with run of the house with no worries of destruction… she will pretty much be where you left her
  • Jeanine: Chi-pit mix; currently weighs (in the ballpark) of 30 lbs. Playing, eating, playing, sleeping, playing and more playing are my favorite things to do. Good with other dogs; will be out from 1:00 to 2:30
  • Sage:

Dogs Wake Forest April 2nd
  • Brownie: 2-4 year old male lab mix; shy at first meeting, but warms up quickly; good with kids & great with other dogs; LOVES back rubs and butt scratches; missing one ear and although it is an old injury, he is a little nervous about the area being touched; past the puppy stage, so his perfect day would be just lounging around with his foster mom & foster siblings
  • Cleo: 2year old Plott Hound mix; 18 lbs; LOVES people & to be held and to give kisses; ok with dogs as long as there is a proper introduction; she hasn't been cat-tested so unsure of how she would be; she is protective of her food so she is fed separately in her crate; house trained & crate trained, although she is a pro at escaping her crate; should not be left unsupervised in a fenced yard
  • Duke: 3 year old Husky/Boxer mix; 68 lbs; a huge ball of love; good with kids & cats; LOVES other dogs — so much so that he will need a home with at least one other dog; walks well on leash; house trained & crate trained
  • Duncan: 1 year old Lab/Border Collie mix; 65 lbs; sweet boy with lots of energy; house-trained & crate-trained; loves his people and other dogs... loves to chase cats! favorite toys are Kongs and squeaky toys.
  • Tito: 1 – 2 yr old Fox Hound; very affectionate and loves every dog and person he meets; loves to give kisses; good on leash; would do best with a fenced yard and another dog or an active family
  • Little Ricky: 1 yr old Boxer mix; loves his people & other dogs; a large fenced yard for him to run & play in would be good for his puppy energy; kid friendly, but may be too energetic and clumsy for young children

Lowes Foods of Knightdale Supply Drive – March 18th 11 AM to 2PM

Come Help Us, And Meet Banjo!

Hello Folks!

My name is Banjo and I am one lucky dog! Why? Because I was chosen (mostly due to my good looks) to represent the wonderfully amazing Paws For Life Animal Rescue at their Knightdale Lowes Foods supply drive this weekend. Since I am a 100% bona-fide good old' local boy, isn't it wonderful that a store known for promoting the idea of "homegrown shopping" is hosting our drive? And yes ladies, I am available!

If you need to get a little grocery shopping in, please stop by the Knightdale Lowes Foods store on . The Paws For Life team will give you a hearty hello and let you know of any items we are in need of... in case you would like to make a donation!

Let me tell you a little more about me. I am a 3-4 year old Lab/Hound mix. I love my people and love to be babied and snuggle in blankets with you... and belly rubs are THE BEST! When it comes to other dogs, I don't like little dogs and I don't like other guys (the cramp my style), but I do love the ladies and wouldn't mind having one in my forever home. I like to go on walks, but I take my job as your protector very seriously and see it as my job to protect you from other dogs while out on walks. So, a fenced yard would be best for me... or some "sensitivity" training for me on how to walk like a gentleman.

Hope to see you there!

Adoption Events – March 18th 2017

Paws For Life Cat Team Adoption Events

The Paws For Life cat team will be at the Wake Forest and Knightdale Petcos . Come check out our cats!

Petco — Knightdale ()

Knightdale Petco Cats - March 18th
  • Punkin: This gorgeous 2 year old young man with the flaming red hair looks like a Persian kitty but is smaller in size. He likes to "head butt" you when you feed him and enjoys laying in your lap. His second favorite thing (besides eating) is to knead his bed with his big paws. He just looks so adorable when he does that. He is a shy guy so a quiet home would be best for him. His docile nature and good looks makes him the perfect cat for a single, couple or senior person. See his WRAL Pet Of The Day Debut
  • Cheeto: This slim "ginger boy" is affectionate and loves to be loved on by his people. He likes other kitties, so he would do great in a home with another kitty or even a cat savvy dog! He just doesn't like to be alone. He would do well with children because he is gentle and doesn't bite or scratch when picked up.
  • Hope: Hope and her sister Grace were born to a stray - but a nice lady brought the family inside and raised them with love. Hope is the sweetest girl. Very laid back but also playful. Loves to get attention and held like a baby for belly rubs and nose kisses. She has such a beautiful coat and a face that will melt your heart. She would love someone to give her lots of attention and love.
  • Grace: Grace, Hope's sister, was also born to a stray - but a nice lady took both them in and raised them with love. We took them into our program to help find loving homes for them. Grace is a loving girl that loves attention. She is also curious about what is around her. She will come to you talking. If she is looking for her you can hear her walking around the house talking to find you. She loves to play with her sister and run throughout the house. If you are looking for a baby with tons of energy Grace is your girl!

Petco — Wake Forest ()

Wake Forest Petco Cats - March 18th
  • Cyndel: Cyndel is absolutely one of the friendliest cats you will ever meet. She loves people, other cats, and even dogs. She never has a bad day.....she's always outgoing and loving. Since she has no fear of dogs, she needs to be around only cat friendly dogs. She's young (around 3 years old or quite possibly younger), very reliably litter box trained, and felv and fiv negative.
  • Tammy: Tammy is a two and one half year old female tabby. She was rescued from Animal Control along with her five kittens on August 1, 2016. Now it is time for Tammy to find her forever home. Fitting in with personal after some time, and would probably fit in with a mature dog. She loves to play with ribbons, springs, toys on a stick and just finds things like kitties will do. She loves to go onto the screened in porch to watch the birds and sounds of nature. She has been spayed, micro chipped and is current on all her vaccinations. She is ready to go to a new home.
  • Shyla: Shyla is a very sweet, quiet, and gentle girl who we rescued from a kill shelter. She is 1-2 years old. She is affectionate and likes to be petted although it might take her a moment to warm up to a stranger. She is playful and her favorite toy is a long piece of felt on a stick which she loves to chase. She does great with other cats. Shyla would do best in an adult home without small children. She is spayed, current on shots, dewormed, microchipped, and negative for Felv/fiv.
  • Anna: 2yo 6lb - "The sweetest cat ever," claims Anna's foster mom. Rescued from a rural kill shelter, Anna is extremely friendly, affectionate, and wants nothing more than to be with her people. She has a sweet, soft chirp that she will let out when she's about to jump on your lap where she will settle in to cuddle and nuzzle. Anna's black fur is so velvet-soft that petting her will comfort you. Anna is only six pounds fully grown so she will always be a petite girl who is out of the frisky kitten stage. At two years old, Anna has great litter box manners, uses a scratching post if she even chooses to scratch anything, and loves soft treats. She has an absolutely delightful personality and is one of the most loving kitties you will ever meet. She is good with other cats but sometimes gets picked on due to her small size. She is not afraid of dogs, and loves people. She would be great as an only pet or with other pets who are very accepting of newcomers

Sugar and Cookie… Everything Sweet

A Sweet Foster's Story

My son and I started fostering kittens for Franklin County Humane Society of NC in . We had assorted kitties come through our home and stay from one week to maybe three weeks at the most before finding their forever homes.

This past February we welcomed to our home sibling kittens with classic Turkish Van markings and the softest bunny like fur. These kittens were sweetest most gentle kittens and they were very bonded. They did everything together, walking in unison and hooking their tails while they slept. We named them Sugar and Cookie.

Sugar was adopted in early April to a wonderful family who fell in love with her and just had to have her. I tried to have them adopt Cookie too, but they couldn't adopt two at that time. Poor Cookie cried all the way home he missed his sister so much. Cookie had three adoption applications that fell through, it just wasn't meant to be. May and June passed and he was growing into a very handsome young cat and we just couldn't understand why no one was interested in him, everyone who saw him said he was beautiful and gentle but no takers.

On July 12th I received a heartbreaking email from a couple Marco and Ludmila who were interested in Cookie, their beloved cat Pierro passed away. He was 16 and had a bone marrow disease. They were devastated and Marco was looking on Petfinders and was amazed to see Cookie, who was Pierro's double! and they wanted him. Through many phone calls and emails his adoption was finalized in a few days. The only obstacle was his new family was in Boston MA. So Ludmila his new mom made arrangements to fly down to Raleigh NC early Saturday morning. My son John and I meet her at the airport with Cookie too and it was like we were already best friends. She is such a loving wonderful lady, smart, beautiful and generous. WE spent the day together going to the vet and getting Cookies health records and certificate visiting our home in Knightdale and meeting the other FCHS foster families at Petco. That afternoon Cookie flew home on the plane! He had his own ticket, no cargo for our special boy. Saying goodbye at the airport was bittersweet, we were missing Cookie already but we knew he found his most perfect forever home where he was meant to be.

We receive weekly updates from Cookie and we are friends on Facebook with his wonderful new family. Cookie helps Marco give piano lessons and is pretty much head of the household.

This past summer Marco and Ludmila traveled to the Czech Republic and of course Cookie had a first class seat right next to them. I posted on Facebook how Cookie has become a world traveler. Much to my surprise my sister Linda wrote that she met Cookie on the plane. She and her family were traveling from France to the Czech Republic and they met Cookie on the plane! Such a small world made better with a kitty!

Romulus – A Paws In Need Rescue

A Ruff Start

Romulus, this handsome big-headed boy, spent nearly a year in our foster program. In the summer of 2015, Romulus was picked up by Franklin County Animal Control at the request of his owner. He had spent the first years of his young life tied to a tree but that didn't keep his tail from wagging. Eventually, he was adopted from the shelter... but his new owner gave him up after she learned he was heartworm positive. Then, he found temporary refuge with a wonderful, dog-loving family, but couldn't stay there because his main caregiver was suffering from severe arthritis.

Woeful Times

I was in contact with the family and eventually began to foster this big baby in December 2015. Early on this sweet boy didn't get much attention at events or online. I spent lots of time helping socialize Romulus and teaching him house manners. During the summertime of 2016, Romulus got his first chance. Unfortunately, he broke out of his crate and "rearranged" and destroyed some things in his adopter's home. He was returned to the rescue. Then, during the fall, he had his second chance. However, the potential adopter's dog was not too fond of having a new dog in the house. They said Romulus was not able to be himself so again, he was returned. They say third time is a charm, right???

 Romulus Finds a Home
Romulus Finds a Home
Third Times a Charm

Well, this sweet story proves this to be true! Romulus met a nice family at an adoption event in Knightdale and they loved his calm demeanor. When Romulus went on his third home trial, I said if it didn't work out this time I was planning to adopt him myself! I warned the new family that Romulus is an escape artist and recommended they use zip ties for his crate. A few days in to the home trial, pictures were sent of Romulus' interior decorating skills. I was worried this was going to lead to him being returned again. The family said it was okay and he is still a good dog. They purchased zip ties following the incident.

A few days later, I received a wonderful e-mail saying Romulus did great with their young nephew and with their elderly parents and that they wanted him to stay forever. It was a Christmas miracle for Romulus! Now he has two human siblings, one fur sister and two parents to call his own. Happy life, sweet Romulus, and thank you to all the wonderful people who took part in helping save this big-headed baby from the shelter!
