Please Help Goldie

 Goldie
Goldie

Goldie needs our help to raise money for her heartworm treatment, teeth extractions, and cancerous tumor removal!

This sweet gal was found in an abandoned house that was condemned and due to be demolished. Before knocking the place down they checked and found her and several other dogs inside. Animal control picked her and the others up, and she entered the shelter severely underweight at just 45lbs. Her age is estimated at 5 years old and she tested heartworm positive. Her front teeth were all worn down to nothing with the roots exposed, 2 of her canines were broken with roots showing, most likely from eating trash and tearing open canned food.

Luckily we were able to get her teeth removed and during her spay came across some cancerous tumors that had to be removed! She was covered in fleas with a skin infection but after some time in her loving foster home she is doing so much better! Goldie has come a long way but still has a ways to go.

Now that she has had a constant supply of food for a few weeks, we estimate she weighs about 65 pounds. She is house trained, crate trained, and can't wait to get healthy again so she can go off to her forever home!

Please Help our Sweet Tessa

 Tessa
Tessa

This is our sweet Tessa. She is a foster dog with Paws for Life Animal Rescue here in NC. She found herself stuck at the Franklin County Shelter with two siblings left because the owner did not want to care for them anymore. Her kind eyes drew her foster in and even though she was heartworm positive the foster had to take her into her home and get her well.

The goal is to find her a wonderful forever family to match her amazing spirit. Tessa is roughly age 5. We think she is a Brittany mixed with sheltie. She is 55lbs but could stand to drop 10-15!

She is a lazy gal. She loves to lounge on the couch or floor. She is a people dog and wants to please, kiss, and follow you around! She loves dogs and cats alike. She had lived with 2 male dogs in her previous life. She lives with a male and female dog and 3 cats in her foster home.

Can you help us to get her heartworm free so we can get her into her forever home? HW treatment sucks the rescue funds right down (along with the many other medical surgical cases we face). Paws for Life does not shy away from dogs with medical needs because we know we are their best chance at survival. We rely on your donations to save lives as we are 100% non profit / 100% volunteer and 100% foster system based.

Adoption Event – May 26th 2017

Paws For Life Dog Team Adoption Event

The Paws For Life dog team will be at Youngsville Beer & Wine 101

Dogs Youngsville Petco May 26th
  • Brownie: 2–4 yr old male Lab mix; shy at first meeting, but warms up quickly; good with kids & great with other dogs; LOVES back rubs and butt scratches; missing one ear and although it is an old injury, he is a little nervous about the area being touched; past the puppy stage, so his perfect day would be just lounging around with his foster mom & foster siblings
  • Chi Chi: A sweet senior Maltese/Cairn Terrier mix; she loves to give kisses and romp and play in the yard; potty trained; prefers to be the only dog since she has some food/resource-guarding behaviors, but can live with other dogs if they give her space; needs an adult only home or a home with older/teen children who can understand her fears and treat her accordingly – specifically, she doesn’t like her face or nose touched
  • Coal: ~ 4-month-old Shepherd mix; current weight is ~15 lbs; he’s everything puppy
  • Dakota: 3 yr old Lab mix; 52 lbs; very friendly & outgoing boy; loves to play; very dog friendly and thrives with playmates; cat-friendly; walks well on leash and would love a family who would take him for walks regularly; appears to be house trained; prefers to NOT be crated, but will go in one if nudged and is fairly quiet once in—however, he has not been destructive when left out to his own devices so crating may not be necessary
  • Duncan: 1 yr old Lab/Great Dane mix; 65 lbs; sweet boy with lots of energy; house-trained & crate-trained; loves his people and other dogs … loves to chase cats!; favorite toys are Kongs and squeaky toys
  • Duke: 3 year old Husky/Boxer mix; 68 lbs; a huge ball of love; good with kids & cats; LOVES other dogs—so much so that he will need a home with at least one other dog; walks well on leash; house trained & crate trained
  • JC: Hound/Shepherd mix; ~ 40 lbs; dog friendly; ok with confident cats, but will chase timid cats; house trained & crate trained; can easily jump 4 ft fences, so will need a 6 ft fence or a home where he is walked regularly
  • Link: 3 yr old Alaskan Malamute/Siberian Husky mix; 85 lbs; loves other dogs & people—NO cats; a skilled escape artist that can scale almost any fence—should not be off leash in a fenced yard unless the fence is 8 ft or higher and/or hot-wired at the top; has crate anxiety; requires an experienced owner
  • Little Ricky: 1 yr old Boxer mix; loves his people & other dogs; a large fenced yard for him to run & play in would be good for his puppy energy; kid friendly, but may be too energetic and clumsy for young children
  • Maggie: Australian Cattle Dog; 40 lbs; good with kids & dogs … cats unknown; loves to go on walks with her people; loves to run; enjoys laying on the couch and LOVES getting showered with belly rubs; she has very soft fur to run your fingers through; food motivated; crate trained; can jump 4 ft fences
  • Nala: 2 yr old Siberian Husky; loves other dogs & will play all day, so finding a home another dog would be a plus; she loves to snuggle with her people once she knows you … but will need an adjustment period with new people; previous husky experience would be a plus as Nala is looking for a good pack leader; house trained; needs a 6ft fence or higher
  • Serena: ~ 1 yr old Hound mix; 50 lbs; good with other dogs and loves to play with them, but will need proper introduction; ok with cats … will chase if they run … so it is cat-dependent and would need monitoring; ok with kids; likes to go for walks so will need an active family or one with a fenced yard for her to run and play in; she has excellent leash manners … until she sees something to chase like cats, birds, bunnies, butterflies, squirrels, etc.; house-trained; crate-trained and sees her crate as her personal safe place; loves chew toys
  • Tom: ~ 1 yr old Wirehaired Fox Terrier mix; 24 lbs; SWEET boy who is his absolute happiest when he is with his people; he is still learning to trust but once he warms up to you, he can be affectionate; respects cats but simply LOVES other dogs and running & playing with them outside; he loves toys too – bones and hooves are some of his favorites; currently working on leash and potty training

  • Arizona: 7 month old Lab; good with kids, cats & dogs; loves snuggling and squeaky toys; house trained; working on crate training;
  • Faith: 3 year old Bulldog mix; 48 lbs; very shy, sweet girl who spent the last month learning how to be a pet and part of a loving family – every experience was a new one; now house trained & crate trained; good with kids & cats; will require a home with at least one other dog as they give her confidence and help her shine – she CANNOT be an only dog; she is good on leash but doesn't like to potty on leash – would prefer a yard to play in and to find her perfect (private) potty place; she is awaiting surgery for a loose kneecap; will be available in May to give her time to recover from surgery.
  • Duke: 3 year old Husky/Boxer mix; 68 lbs; a huge ball of love; good with kids & cats; LOVES other dogs — so much so that he will need a home with at least one other dog; walks well on leash; house trained & crate trained
  • Gypsy: 3 yr old Lab mix; sweet, stoic nature; she has two speeds: all out or couch potato; she would LOVE a large fenced yard to run & play in; loves children & can live with other dogs & cats; she finds crates insulting; you can confidently leave her with run of the house with no worries of destruction… she will pretty much be where you left her
  • Jeanine: Chi-pit mix; currently weighs (in the ballpark) of 30 lbs. Playing, eating, playing, sleeping, playing and more playing are my favorite things to do. Good with other dogs; will be out from 1:00 to 2:30

Hadley Update

Hadley wants to say thank you to everyone who donated to and shared her fundraiser! We were able to meet our goal and Hadley had surgery to repair her leg on Wednesday, March 22nd. Sweet Hadley was the victim of a domestic violence situation in which her femur bone was broken at the growth plate. Hadley will be on crate rest for three weeks with very little activity. Even though she has to be crate-rested she is a very happy girl! She is doing very well with potty-training and very rarely uses the bathroom in her crate. She enjoys sitting with her foster parents and quietly chewing a bone, cuddling with her favorite stuffed toy or giving lots of sweet puppy kisses. Hadley is learning that cats can be her friend and when she’s all better, she will finally get to play with other doggies. Please keep Hadley in your thoughts as she continues to heal!

“You Don’t Have a Shelter?”

We Foster!

That’s a question I get all the time at adoption events. The public is often surprised that Paws For Life operates without a physical shelter for our animals. "You don’t send them back to animal control if they aren't adopted?" they ask.

I'm always pleased to respond that although most of the cats and dogs in our program are pulled from animal-control-operated shelters, we will never put them back there again. Our one-hundred percent volunteer-run organization ensures that each adoptable cat and dog in our program lives with a foster. Without a physical Paws For Life owned building, we solely rely on our fosters to care and house our animals. Each additional foster home we have means more cats and dogs can be rescued.

Do you have a space to temporarily home one of our adoptable pets? We provide all vetting and supplies for the animals and ask that you bring your foster to at least two adoption events per month so they can be seen by potential adopters. Your kindness and care is key to helping them transition from shelter life to forever homes.

For more information on how to help save more loving, sweet cats and dogs, discover how you can become a foster, or learn about other ways to get involved with Paws For Life.
