  • Dougie: Hound/Shepherd; 68 lbs; loves his people; specializes in giving big sloppy kisses; good with kids & female dogs
  • Gypsy: 3 yr old Lab mix; sweet, stoic nature; she has two speeds: all out or couch potato; she would LOVE a large fenced yard to run & play in; loves children & can live with other dogs & cats; she finds crates insulting; you can confidently leave her with run of the house with no worries of destruction… she will pretty much be where you left her
  • Murphy: 3 year old hound mix; extremely laid back; good with kids cats other dogs; loves ear scratches belly rubs and giving kisses
  • Trooper: 12 year old Doberman mix; very sweet old man who just wants a human to hang out with and take long naps in his bed or the couch; limited in his vision and hearing; doesn’t mind cats but doesn’t like another dog in his face
  • Buck: 6 – 8 yr old senior bulldog mix; 45lbs; low energy – enjoys the laid back lifestyle; kid, cat & dog friendly; doesn’t like other dogs getting in his face

[text-blocks id=”polaroid” classes=”happy-tail-photo” src=”/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/petsmart-feb-25-2017-300×300.jpg” width=”300″ height=”300″ text=”Petsmart Dogs” plain=”1″]Petsmart — Wake Forest

  • Chi-Chi: A sweet senior Maltese/Cairn Terrier mix; she loves to give kisses and romp and play in the yard; potty trained; prefers to be the only dog since she has some food/resource-guarding behaviors, but can live with other dogs if they give her space; needs an adult only home or a home with older/teen children who can understand her fears and treat her accordingly – specifically, she doesn’t like her face or nose touched Read her story.
  • Ash: 1.5 yr old Lab/Great Pyrenees mix or Weimaraner/Great Pryenees mix; 46 lbs; playful, confident, energetic guy; chases cats if they run; good with older kids (12 & up); loves other dogs and he THRIVES with canine companionship so it is highly suggested he goes to a home that has another dog; a large fenced yard and an active family to take him for regular walks/runs would be a big plus to help him exhaust his energy; prefers to be nearby, but not a lap dog; house trained and crate trained… but really would love to sleep in your bed at night
  • Joelle: 3 yr old Hound; a beautiful doe-eyed, long-legged girl who is very shy and scared girl; she needs slow introductions to people and also needs a calmer environment; she does well with kids, dogs & cats; house & crate trained. Read her story.
  • Lucy: Beagle/Lab mix; 25 lbs; sweet, shy girl; dog & cat friendly; likes people but needs time to warm up to you; she is looking for a stable, quiet home and a desire to share your warm bed;
  • Xena: 2 yr old Boxer mix; shy but loving girl that LOVES attention & treats; great with other dogs & cats; loves to run and play; crate trained & house trained ♥ ♥ ♥

Chi-Chi’s Return and Beautification

[text-blocks id=”polaroid” classes=”main-image-full” src=”/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Chi_Chi_Pre_Groom-300×225.jpeg” width=”300″ height=”225″ text=”Chi-Chi (pre-Groom)” plain=”1″]Our Community Steps Up

Unfortunately, Chi-Chi was  returned to Paws For Life when her adopter died unexpectedly. Not only was she likely sad on the inside, she also looked sad on the outside (not to mention a bit stinky, too). With a quick request to see if anyone in our wonderful community would donate a free grooming session, within minutes Bonnie Keyes, a Kennel Tech at Canine Country Club and Pet Hotel and avid animal advocate/lover offered to help! They provided the pampering Chi-Chi needed to get ready for her new debut to find her next fur-ever family.  This was further appreciated when Chi-Chi was brought in for her grooming session, and to say the least, was not the most pleasant client.  She did not love her toes or face touched but CCC staff was very patient and kind throughout the whole process!! In addition Melissa, who is both a talented groomer and the steadfast office manager has been with them for about the same amount of time. They pride themselves in having some of the same clients since the 80’s who continue to bring their 4-legged babies to CCC. They know with all the new grooming places that come and go, you have lots of choices but their FOCUS is quality of service and relationships. We can not thank Canine Country Club wonderful staff enough for their big hearts, warm hands, and generosity.

Mission Shed-Possible

Awesome Community Support

Paws For Life Animal Rescue is very fortunate to have a community that supports our efforts with donations of money and supplies. However, at times an abundance of supplies threatens to make access to our storage shed impossible.

Call In “The Shed Team”

The solution? Call in “The Shed Team” of course! Last week, five volunteers gave up their Sunday afternoon to move existing shelving and install new industrial strength shelving. This daunting task gave us space for the heavy crates, and allowed us to sort, stack and stow all the necessary inventory.

Organization… For The Win

As a result of this hard labor, our fantastic dog team, cat team, fundraising team, transport team, fosters, medical/microchip teams, and general volunteers can find the supplies they need! Organized and inventoried, and ready to more efficiently save lives! Seems like a lot, however, you’d be surprised at how quickly we can go through all of this inventory! We could always use more volunteers to help organize the next batch of donations!

~ Kathy

February Volunteer Spotlight and Thank You

Paws for Life Animal Rescue has so many wonderful volunteers doing great things for our organization and the animals in our care. Here are just a few who regularly go above to help us achieve our goals.

Pete Mercer has been with our group for less than a year, but he has jumped in with both feet. He’s a dog foster, a dog team captain, a recurring adoption event leader, and most recently joined the intake team. He is always offering to deliver/pick up food, supplies, medicines and even offers to pick up and drop off foster dogs other than his own to make sure they get to events. Pete is a total team player.

Susan Decker’s energy, positive outlook, and friendliness are indescribable. She is the first to offer a hand to those who need help. Susan gets on board and supports others’ ideas and efforts 100%. She is an integral member of our fundraising team and a great conduit for connecting people, purpose and positive energy. Everyone needs a Susan Decker their organization.

When it comes to volunteering, Barbara Coe is a soft-spoken, friendly woman who delivers quite a punch … and she does it with flair! An active cat foster, our reigning supply-drive queen, and a fundraising team member extraordinaire, Barbara is always at the ready to lead a drive, donate a basket or offer support. She is the epitome of quiet strength.

Thanks All!

Thank you to all of our volunteers for everything you do each and every day! It doesn’t matter if you are cat team or dog team, foster or general volunteer, put your efforts towards fundraising, running events/programs, screening applications, checking voice mails, website management, grant writing, delivery/transports, cleaning condos/q-shed, or helping spread the word about what we do. We are all in this organization together to make a difference in the lives of homeless dogs and cats. Together, we DO make a difference and every year gets better and better with the number of animals we are able to rescue.

Andie Needs A Home

[text-blocks id=”polaroid” classes=”main-image-full” src=”/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/andie-1-293×300.jpg” width=”293″ height=”300″ text=”Andie Needs Love” plain=”1″]A Sweet Senior Lady, Looking For Snuggles

Andie is a sweet senior lady that has been waiting over a year for her home. She is looking for a special adopter. Andie loves to snuggle on the couch, get belly rubs, give kisses and follow her humans around. She is so eager to receive attention and affection from her loved ones that sometimes she can be pushy.

When Paws for Life rescued Andie from the shelter it was obvious she had been neglected and possibly abused for most her life. With time and patience Andie has come a very long way. She is super loving but needs time to gain trust, especially with men. Andie will need a home with a patient owner/family that will give her time to adjust and feel comfortable setting boundaries for her. Andie is good with dogs, cats and with older kids who are respectful and understanding of animals. She loves to play with her foster mom’s eight-year-old niece and ten-year-old nephew.

Andie is very food motivated, which is great for training, but she sometimes accidentally nips your fingers when she thinks you have treats. It is best to feed her with an open palm. We know that the perfect person is out there looking for a special companion like this sweetie.

Thank You Redd Waggin Pet Supply Co.!

[text-blocks id=”polaroid” classes=”main-image-full” src=”/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Redd_Waggin_Feb_17_Supply_Donation-300×300.jpg” width=”300″ height=”300″ text=”Redd Waggin Donation” plain=”1″]Your donation of food and supplies helps us save more lives!

Recently a volunteer made a request, “Can someone pick up a supply donation from Redd Waggin?”  Sure, that was something I could take care of on a sunny, beautiful, unusually warm February day.  Little did I know when I would arrive to pick up this food and supply delivery it would take 4 husky men and little ‘ole me to fill up my car from top to bottom and from front to back! (By the way, there are as many different volunteer opportunities as there are interests you have or time you have available…are you interested in helping? Then find out more about volunteering at Paws For Life!)

Johnny Dotson, owner of Redd Waggin Pet Supply Co., donated 100’s of pounds of cat and dog food as well as much needed kitty litter to Paws For Life.  As he states, “This is a truck worth chasing!” When we receive support in the way of food and supply donations from our community, it allows Paws For Life to allocate more money to medical treatment for the our rescues. Learn about donating here.

Thank you Johnny for showing such love right around Valentine’s Day and throughout the year with your thoughtful and generous donations!  #wecantdoitalone #bethedifference
